Ingredients

Method

1. Peel and chop the yautía and green bananas into small pieces. 2. In a large pot, boil the yautía and green bananas until tender. 3. Drain the water and add the pork, adobo seasoning, oregano, garlic powder, chicken broth, achiote oil, and sofrito. Mix well. 4. Cook the mixture over medium heat for around 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently. 5. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool. 6. Cut the banana leaves into 12-inch squares and wipe them clean. 7. Place a spoonful of the mixture onto the center of the banana leaf square. 8. Fold the banana leaf over the mixture, then fold the sides inwards to create a package. 9. Tie the package with string to secure it. 10. Repeat until all of the mixture is used up. 11. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add the pasteles. 12. Cook the pasteles for around 1-2 hours, or until they are fully cooked. 13. Remove from the pot and serve hot.

Notes

- You can freeze the pasteles for up to 3 months. - If you can't find banana leaves, you can use parchment paper instead. - You can also use chicken or beef instead of pork.
