Method

To make chana dal rice dhokla, follow these steps:
  1. Soak chana dal and rice in water for 4-5 hours.
  2. Drain the water and grind the soaked chana dal and rice along with green chillies and ginger in a blender to make a smooth batter.
  3. Add salt, sugar and citric acid to the batter and mix well.
  4. Add a tablespoon of oil and mix the batter again.
  5. Add water to the steaming vessel and bring it to a boil.
  6. Add fruit salt to the batter and mix it lightly.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased thali and place it in the steaming vessel.
  8. Cover the vessel and steam the dhokla for around 15-20 minutes.
  9. Remove the dhokla from the steaming vessel and allow it to cool.
  10. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida and green chillies for seasoning.
  11. Cut the dhokla into pieces and pour the seasoning over it.
  12. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with chutney.

Notes

  • Make sure the batter is not too thick or too thin.
  • Do not overmix the batter after adding fruit salt.
  • Adjust the amount of green chillies and ginger according to your taste.
  • You can also add grated coconut or sesame seeds to the batter for extra flavor.
