Method
1. Rinse the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside. 2. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds and cook until they start to pop. 3. Add the sliced onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook until the onion is translucent. 4. Add the cranberries, salt, and sugar to the pot and cook for 2-3 minutes. 5. Add the rice to the pot and stir until it is coated with the onion mixture. 6. Add the water to the pot and bring to a boil. 7. Cover the pot with a lid and reduce the heat to low. Cook for 18-20 minutes, or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender. 8. Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes. 9. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve.
