Ingredients

  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 1/2 cup curd
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp green chili paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp fruit salt
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

  • Bowl
  • Whisk

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix gram flour, curd, water, ginger paste, green chili paste, sugar, turmeric powder and salt to taste. Mix well and make a smooth batter.
  2. Add fruit salt and mix well. The batter will become frothy.
  3. Grease the rice cooker bowl with oil.
  4. Pour the batter into the rice cooker bowl and tap it gently to spread the batter evenly.
  5. Put the rice cooker on cook mode and let it steam for 20-25 minutes.
  6. After 20-25 minutes, check the dhokla by inserting a knife or toothpick in the center. If it comes out clean, it is cooked.
  7. Turn off the rice cooker and let it cool for 5-10 minutes.
  8. In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds and sesame seeds. Let them splutter.
  9. Pour the tempering over the dhokla and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  11. Cut the dhokla into pieces and serve with green chutney or tamarind chutney.

Notes

  • Make sure the batter is not too thick or too thin.
  • Add fruit salt just before steaming the dhokla.
  • Do not open the rice cooker in between, as it may affect the cooking process.
