Ingredients

  • 1 lb white fish fillet
  • 4 cups basmati rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. Wash the rice in cold water and soak it for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until they are translucent.
  3. Add the garlic, ginger paste, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the fish fillet and cook for 5-7 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
  6. Remove the fish from the pot and set aside.
  7. Add the soaked rice to the pot and stir well.
  8. Add 6 cups of water and salt to taste. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot.
  9. Cook the rice for 15-20 minutes until it is tender and fluffy.
  10. Fluff the rice with a fork and add the garam masala.
  11. Place the fish fillet on top of the rice and cover the pot. Cook for another 5-10 minutes until the rice is fully cooked and the fish is heated through.
  12. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.

Notes

You can use any white fish fillet for this recipe, such as tilapia or cod. For a spicier dish, you can increase the amount of red chili powder. You can also add vegetables such as peas or carrots to the rice for added nutrition.
